A UFO, otherwise known as an unidentified flying object, is an unusual aerial phenomena with records of sighting which go back to the ancient times. But, the first official investigations into this matter only began during World War II with sightings of what the Allied airplane crews referred to as “Foo Fighters”. In 1946, a number of sightings of what were called European “Ghost Rockets” were reported. After the much publicized United States UFO sighting by pilot Kenneth Arnold in 1947, UFO reports became even more rampant. Since then, thousands upon thousands of sightings have been recorded worldwide. The term UFO doesn’t necessarily mean “Alien space craft”. As a matter of fact, it is a term used by USAF to refer to objects, flying ones, that can’t be identified after much scrutiny. There are even things called, IFO’s which mean the exact opposite of a UFO. But since the beginning of the “sightings” the term UFO has become more associated with aliens than with what it actually means.
In this modern age, there is even a study called
Ufology which basically describes the collective effort
of people who study UFO reports as well as the evidence
associated with it. Not all Ufologists, UFO
researchers, are actual believers of the existence of
UFO’s. But the common ground that they all have is that
they believe that the UFO arena is definitely worthy of
further research and that it should be taken as
seriously as any other study.
